GNAT members asked to access teachers’ fund

cediMembers of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have been urged to take advantage of the teachers’ fund to improve upon their livelihoods.

The teachers fund was set up to provide retirement supplement, lifestyle enhancing facilities in the form of loans, to engage in property development and real estate activities among other objectives for members of the association.

Madam Lydia Adeetuk, Kassena Nankana District GNAT Secretary, made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the association organized a quiz completion for new members.

She said before teachers could access the fund, there was the need for them to provide their current pay slips, adding that encounters she has had over the time, revealed that most teachers attempt accessing the fund without these documents.

Madam Adeetuk asked beneficiaries to ensure that these documents were readily available to check wrongful deduction.

Mr Charles Kufiah, District Youth Coordinator of GNAT, lamented that: “most young teachers are unaware of the GNAT constitution, the youth policy, publications and of course labour relations to enable them effectively negotiate with their employers in terms of their remunerations”.

He called on government to ensure that unpaid category two and three allowances are duly settled to promote teaching and learning.

At the end of the quiz competition, teachers from Sirigu emerged winners and certificates were presented to participants from Basic, Secondary and colleges of education in the district.
