The President will move to the Flag Staff House from Thursday February 7, 2013 to work from there, a press release issued Tuesday February 5, 2013 by the Ministry of Information and Media Relations has said.

“Government wishes to announce that the seat of Government will officially move from the Castle-Osu to the Flag Staff House on Thursday, February 7, 2013.

This means that President John Dramani Mahama will from Thursday, February 7, 2013 conduct formal government business from the Flag Staff House,” it said.

The release indicated that there will be a short ceremony at the Flag Staff House to commemorate the movement at 10 am.

The Flag Staff House was constructed under the government of President J. A. Kufuor and christened Jubilee House to commemorate Ghana’s Golden Jubilee to be used as seat of government.

But the NDC government did not move there on assumption of office. The multi-million dollar edifice was commissioned November 10, 2008, but has not served the purpose for which it was built.

When the Foreign Affairs Ministry building was razed down by fire October 21, 2009, the Ministry was moved to occupy a portion of the building.
