Three sentenced 30 years for snatching urvan bus

Two drivers and a painter have been sentenced to ten years imprisonment each in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court for snatching an Urvan bus from its driver at gun point.

Kwaku Appiah and Fencz Samuel Baffoe, the drivers, as well as Abdul Rashid, alias “Rasta,” the painter, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and robbery and the accomplice, Osei Wayo, a car dealer, is on the run.

Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the complainant is the driver, and resident of Fawoade in the Kwabre East District, whilst the convicts were members of a robbery gang in Kumasi.

Chief Insp. Fandoh said on April 13, 2009, at about 1930 hours, the complainant was parking the bus in front of his house at Fawoade when a KIA Pride taxi pulled up suddenly close to him.

The court heard that the convicts alighted from the taxi and at gun point robbed Yeboah of the bus and bolted.

Chief Insp. Fandoh said on January 21, 2010, Appiah, Baffoe and Rashid were arrested at Aboabo during a robbery.

The prosecution said upon investigation, the police realized that the suspects were the same gang that robbed Yeboah of the bus at Fawoade.

Chief Insp. Fandoh said the convicts confessed, and told the police in their caution statements that they gave the bus to Wayo to sell.
