Presby Church explores innovative ways to strengthen financial base

cediThe Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has affirmed its determination to invest in viable development projects to bolster the financial base of the Church.

The Reverend Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Chairperson of the Presbytery, said the church could no longer rely on its traditional sources of funds such as offerings, to run affairs of the Presbytery as it was faced with many challenges.

The Presbytery, he said, had in recent time found the need to commit resources towards some projects including estate development, construction of ultra-modern hospitality and health facilities, as well as catering services for its own benefit.

Addressing the annual New Year School of the Presbytery at Adum in Kumasi, Reverend Dr. Opuni-Frimpong said the church was an agent of change and, therefore, had the mandate to be innovative in its drive towards the physical and spiritual growth of members.

The programme was held under the theme: “The Gift of the Holy Spirit in the Church Today – Spiritual Enlargement.”

It aimed at taking stock of the Presbytery’s activities for effective planning of its future programmes.

The Chairperson announced that the Presbytery would soon roll out a training programme intended to sharpen the technical skills and expertise of its presbyters for effective work.

This is because the presbyters constituted one of the core leadership groups of the Church and they needed to always update their knowledge.

Reverend Dr. Opuni-Frimpong challenged the various congregations to form “Mission to the Palace District Committees” to help sustain the church’s relationship with traditional authorities.

Very Reverend Dr. Sam Prempeh, former Moderator of the PCG, emphasized the need for the Church to intensify evangelism to increase its membership and also reduce the incidence of social vices.
