CEDECOM provides over GH¢50m financing for projects in Agona West

Housing_PopulationThe government spent over GH¢50 million on development projects in 2011/12 under its development agenda in the Agona West Municipality.

The projects include construction of Swedru Sports Stadium, Accident and  Emergency Unit and doctors’ bungalows at Swedru Municipal Hospital, construction of  Wall and   Museum at Swedru  and  procurement of 220 KV Generating Plant for Swedru Government Hospital.

The facilities were financed by Central Regional Development Commission (CEDECOM).

Mr Joe Appiah, Board Member of CEDECOM, made this known at an annual get-together organized by the Management of Agona Swedru Government hospital at Agona Swedru.

Mr Appiah said 10 Germany specialist doctors came to Swedru Hospital to offer free medical screening on various diseases.

He said the government has plans to tackle the construction of road networks in the Central Region especially Agona West and East to facilitate movement of goods and services.

Dr Apetorgbor Dzordzegbe, Medical Superintendent of Swedru Municipal Hospital, said the hospital made improvement in its activities last year, reducing still births from 68 in 2011 to 48 in 2012.

Dr Dzordzegbe said despite the successes chalked, the facility is confronted by some challenges which include inadequate staff and doctors, accommodation for staff, congestion at OPD and reduction in voluntary blood donation.

He appealed to the government and individuals to assist the hospital with theatre operating light, tools and beds, anaesthetic machine and patient trolley.
