The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the Association of Small Scale Industries (ASSI) has called for a closer collaboration with the government in 2013.

It urged the new government of President John Mahama to see the association as a development partner in any intervention to develop small and medium scale enterprises in the country.

In his New Year message to members in Koforidua, the Regional Secretary of ASSI, Mr Alfred Kissi, said the extent to which the government would achieve real growth in the economy and create employment for the youth would depend to a large extent on the development of the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).

He said if the SMEs developed and grew, then would proprietors be able to easily pay their taxes and the government also to realize a growth in its revenue.

Mr Kissi called for a closer collaboration between ASSI and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) next year so that members of ASSI could tap into the knowledge and experience of AGI.

He congratulated the members for their hard work despite the challenges they faced and urged them to strive to work harder in the next year to overcome the various economic challenges facing them to ensure growth in their businesses.
