Ade Coker urges Ghanaians to unite to pursue national development agenda

marketMr. Joseph Ade Coker, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reiterated the need for Ghanaians to come together, now that elections are over, to create a congenial ambiance necessary to pursue the national development agenda.

He said NDC victory in the 2012 general election was a victory for all Ghanaians to bring together rich ideas to formulate the right policies and programmes geared towards improving the quality of life of the ordinary people.

Mr. Ade Coker who was speaking to the GNA on the NDC’s victory rally at Osu Oxford Street on Wednesday also noted that policies and programmes meant to improve lives would not generate the right impact in an atmosphere of disunity created by acrimony and confusion.

He said Ghana was making significant strides in development, but  was quick to add that there was the need to work together as a nation to remove deficits in school infrastructure, potable water, sanitation, employment, food security, congestion in cities and health facilities among others.

Explaining why the apparent delay in celebrating its victory, Mr. Ade Coker said right after the elections there was perceptible tension which the national security chiefs reasoned with the NDC’s leadership to hold back in the interest of national peace and development.

He noted national interest superseded any political party or individual interest, saying that posterity would not forgive any person or group of persons who engaged in acts of vandalism to disturb national peace.

He said the victory chalked by the NDC was a victory for all players in democracy and called on other political parties to join in the celebration.

Mr. Ade Coker urged party supporters to be moderate in their celebrations and to avoid acts that would have the tendency to create violence and confusion in the country.

The rally witnessed thousands of party supporters clad in paraphernalia filling the Osu Oxford Street to capacity.

Food vendors and paraphernalia sellers were seen doing brisk businesses whiles party supporters  were entertained by “azonto” and high-life music dancing competitions.
