NDC’s rigging undermines Ghana’s democratic credentials – Dr Bawumia

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP, on Tuesday expressed disappointment at the manner in which the NDC rigged the 2012 general elections and thereby denied the party of victory.

He said by that act, the NDC had undermined the democratic credentials of the country.

Addressing members of the party in Accra, Dr Bawumia said the NPP would do all within its power to ensure that the right verdict of the people was declared.

He said by the estimation of the party, the NDC stole by over 100,000 from about 28 constituencies and called for proper investigations to ascertain the truth of the matter.

He said the last few days after the elections had been a very sad moment in the history of the party and the National Executive Committee of the party had decided to petition the Supreme Court on the matter.

Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, NPP General Secretary, said the party would not allow anyone to cheat and had begun process to taking the case to court.

He said though members of the party had received credible information that the National Security and the Police had started meeting on how they could arrest executives of the party, they would not relent until Nana Akuffo Addo has been declared the president of the country.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin North, appealed to supporters of the party not to take the law into their own hands and be violent.

He said the party worked very hard and should have won the elections adding that it was very sad that things had turned out in this manner.

He said they would continue to protest till Nana Akuffo Addo is declared the winner of the elections.

Others addressing the gathering include Sheikh IC Quaye, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Adwoa Sarfo, MP elect for Dome- Kwabenya, Otiko Afisah Djaba, National Women’s Organizer, Sophia Horner-Sam, Third Vice Chairperson, Joe Ghartey, Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, and Anthony Karbo, a former Youth Organiser of the party.
