Unemployed arrested for attempted child trafficking

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police has arrested a 28-year-old unemployed, Emmanuel Nebapo, for attempting to sell his four-year-old son for GH¢9, 000.

Chief Superintendent of Police Peter Baba told the GNA in Sunyani that on December 3 the suspect, Emmanuel Nebapo, a resident of Chiraa approached the complainant who is a contractor to sell his son to him (complainant) for GH¢9, 000.

He said the complainant expressed interest and after bargaining, asked the suspect to bring his son before the money would be paid.

Chief Superintendent Baba said when the suspect left the house, complainant informed the police and on Election Day, December 7, the suspect sent his son to the complainant in exchange for the money but the complainant informed the police who arrested the suspect.

He said during interrogation, the suspect admitted the offence and told the police that he took the decision because of financial difficulties.

Chief Superintendent Baba said the suspect had been placed in police custody and would be prosecuted for child trafficking.
