Some Ghanaians stress need for post election peace
A section of the public have stressed on the need for the nation to maintain and preserve the peace being enjoyed during and after the December 7 polls.
They were unanimous in their views that it is important that the citizenry shun acts that would jeopardise the stability of the country.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday in Accra, Ms Elisabeth Akakpo, a Lotto Receiver operating at the Tema Station called on Ghanaians to accept the elections results as the verdict of the people.
She said members and followers of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) should exercise restraint about their electoral loss.
Ms Kate Agyei, a trader at the New Tema Station said God had listened to the prayers of Ghanaians especially women and had granted them peaceful elections.
“This is what we all prayed for- a peaceful elections and God has listened to us,” she stressed.
Sylvia Larweh, a detergent seller at the Kaneshie Market, told the GNA that she was happy about how Ghanaians went about the elections which had ensured peace in the country.
She said Ghanaians need peace to go about “our normal duties so all that we need is to work at promoting peace. We should accept the elections result as declared by the Electoral Commission and support the President-elect to develop the nation”.
Nii Kpakpo Bruce, a driver at the A-Lang Trotro Station said the elections result signified the voice of the people, hence the need for all to unite and work and live together.
However, Ms Matilda Asare, a supporter of the NPP, clad in party paraphernalia told the GNA she is not happy about the election results, claiming that the 2012 elections were rigged.
“We are still waiting patiently for what our leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would say,” she said.
Ms Afua Sekyere, a trader and sympathiser of the NPP expressed dissatisfaction that Nana Akufo- Addo electoral lost would affect the implementation of the party’s free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
“I am a divorcee with a child; and as petty trader earning low income, I had the hope that my daughter could enjoy free SHS in future,” she said.
