Kotoko plays Sony Nguema in Champions League

League champions, Asante Kotoko will come up against Equatorial Guinean champions Sony Nguema at the preliminary stage of next year’s CAF Champions League.

The Porcupine Warriors learnt the identity of their opponents following the release of the draw by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday.

The clash will be dicey despite the fact that Sony Nuema, has yet to make any major impact in the continental club championships.

Based in Malabo, they have yet go past the first hurdle in any championship since making their continental bow in 1980.

According to the fixtures, Kotoko will host the first leg on the weekend of 15-17 February with the return leg in Malabo on the weekend of 1-3 March.

The winner is due to meet either Algerian side JSM Bejaia or Olympique Club of Niger at the 1/16th round.

It is very likely Asante Kotoko will come face to face with this year’s losing finalists Esperance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia in the event they reach the 1/8 th round.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s torchbearer’s in the CAF Confederation Cup, Edubiase will face the representative of Congo at the preliminary round.

Edubiase will host the first leg on the weekend of 15-17 February before traveling to Congo in a fortnight for the return encounter.
