The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Wednesday denied that former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama was dead although it cautioned that his condition was critical.

“He (the former vice president) is not dead, he has not passed away,” the Chief Executive of the Hospital, Professor. Otu Nartey said.

Some radio stations and the social media were awash with claims that Alhaji A|liu Mahama, who is on admission at the Cardio Centre at Korle Bu, passed away on Wednesday.

Professor Nartey said the former Vice-President was in on life support in Intensive Care with doctors working around the clock to save his life.

He asked for prayers for the recovery of the vice president.

Prof. Nartey said hospitals in the United Kingdom and Germany had been contacted as arrangements were being made to fly him out for treatment after his condition stabilised.

Alhaji Mahama, 66, was Vice-President from January 7, 2001 to 6 January 2009.
