Ghana FA suspends three referees
Three Premier League referees have been suspended by the Referees Review Panel of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for wrongful interpretations of the laws of the game in the current season.
The trio has been hit with punishments between two and four weeks suspension for failing to apply the rules as directed.
The match officials are referee duo J.A. Amenya and Charles Nii Tagoe and the other, assistant referee William Okoampa.
A GFA statement copied to GNA Sports said Amenya, who handled the New Edubiase versus Medeama season opener clash will serve a two-week ban for failure to sanction a player of Edubiase who head-butted a player of Medeama in the closing stages of the game.
On the part of Nii Tagoe, he pays the price for failing to sanction Asante Kotoko goalie Isaac Amoako, who handled the outside his area in their week one clash against Amidaus Professionals at the Baba Yara Stadium. He has been handed a four-week suspension.
For Okoampa, he will sit out for two-weeks after misleading the centre referee by mistakenly flagging a player offside during the Arsenals versus Wa All Stars week two clash at the Golden City Park.
All the sanctions take effect from week seven matches scheduled for this weekend.
Meanwhile, the Panel has commended three match officials for their strict interpretations of the rules.
They are Assistant Referee Eric Nantiere (Berekum Chelsea vs. Heart of Lions), referee E.R. Biney (Berekum Arsenals vs. Wa All Stars) and referee Sumaila Ibrahim (Asante Kotoko vs. Heart of Lions).
