Organizer speaks on Attuquayefio’s charity match

Primeval Consult, organizers of the famed Cecil Jones Attuquayefio charity match says the June 29 game played at the Accra Sports Stadium grossed GH¢36,900, almost GH¢10,000 more than originally stated.

Larry Opare-Otoo, Chief Executive of Primeval Consult and organizer of the game that has come under public scrutiny says the game aimed at supporting Attuquayefio’s throat cancer treatment fetched GH¢36,900 instead of the original GH¢27,500 publicized.

A statement copied to GNA Sports signed by Opare-Otoo said: “It is untrue that, an amount of GH¢27,000 was realized from the organization of the match. The testimonial match yielded GH¢36,900.”.

He said “it is true that Coach Attuquayefio indeed received $1000 from the organizers after the match. He also received a donation of GH¢5,000 from Torgbui Afede XIV, Board Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak, who was invited by our organization to chair the function and perform the kick off for the match as well.”

The statement added “we also wish to state that, the event was greatly funded by our organization and it is only wise that, we recoup any form of investment in the event before profit is declared. We therefore wish to confirm that, indeed the Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Center at the Korle Bu Hospital is yet to receive any item from us.

It also said “it is a known fact that, the match was poorly patronized despite the massive and huge expenditure on publicity and this affected the main objective behind the organization of the event; that is to raise funds for the ailing coach and the ENT Unit.

Attuquayefio, one of Ghana’s renowned coaches has for the past two years been battling with throat cancer. The illness truncated his illustrious coaching career which saw him chalk several successes as a coach.

He guided Hearts of Oak to the CAF Champions League title in 2000 and the CAF Super Cup the following year. He was also at the helm when the Phobians won the maiden edition of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2004
