Apps4Africa 2012 focuses on business

The 2012 edition of Apps4Africa competition will put focus on promoting economic opportunity and development in Africa.

The 2011 edition was on climate change while the 2010 one was a civic challenge.

The event is an Africa-wide competition meant to encourage the development of mobile, web, and desktop applications (“apps”) that help address the challenge of youth unemployment in Africa.

This year’s competition will be launched October 24-26, 2012 at the inaugural DEMO Africa technology and investor forum in Nairobi, Kenya.

It will be sponsored by the US Department of State.

After the Apps4Africa launch, regional brainstorming sessions with stakeholders is expected to be held in Uganda, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Ghana, Senegal, and Nigeria.
