Ghana Revenue Authority holds seminar for large taxpayers

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on Wednesday organised a one day’s seminar for large taxpayers in the oil and gas and mining industry to boost knowledge and enhance compliance with the self-assessment tax regime.

The seminar was to enhance the understanding and appreciation of participants on filing and payment procedures in making their returns.

Speaking to journalists after the opening session, Mrs Comfort Boohene Osafo, Commissioner, Domestic Tax Revenue, said the seminar was important because it provided both the taxpayers and administrators opportunity to frankly discuss challenges with the view to improving them solutions.

She said the Large Taxpayer office had chalked a lot of success since its introduction and had helped to deepen compliance with returns more than 80 per cent.

Mrs Boohene Osafo said through constant education of stakeholders and enforcement of the Ghana Revenue Authority expected to achieve a 100 per cent compliance target.

She said the self-assessment regime was based on voluntary compliance and urged stakeholders to ensure timely and reliable filing as well as payment.

The seminar also looks at obligations of tax payers, filing and payment procedures, audit report and objection procedures, treatment of rent allowance, among others.
