NPP to establish sports fund

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said it will provide stable investment in sports through the establishment of sports fund if voted into office in the 2012 December Presidential Elections.

This was contained in the 2012 manifesto of the party under the theme, “Transforming Lives, Transforming Ghana, Building a free, fair and prosperous society”.

It stated that, the party will establish sports colleges for academic and professionals studies in sports.

According to the party’s policy on sports subtitled “Sports Matter” it will also invest in equipment, building of sports halls, modern pitches, multi-purpose sports halls in schools and colleges to enable them to identify talented sports men and women to train them as well as provide incentives for them to pursue higher education.

“We will build on the achievement of the Kufuor Government and continue to build stadia in the remaining six regional capitals – Cape Coast, Ho, Sunyani, Wa, Bolgatanga and Koforidua.

“We will seek private public partnerships in executing these programmes where possible.” The manifesto stated.

The party said, it will also encourage the development of sports infrastructure through hosting of events and the delivery and manufacture of sports-related services and work to attract private sector investments.

The party however bemoaned the current deteriorating standards in almost all areas and attributed it to poor leadership in management and administration, inadequate legal framework and lack of funding that retard sports development and promotion in Ghana.

According to the party, it will pass the Sport Bill, prepared during the last NPP government to create the path for greater development in sports in Ghana.
