2012 Global Hunger Index out October 11

The 2012 edition of the Global Hunger Index will be launched October 11, 2012, according to the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)

Themed “The Challenge of Hunger: Ensuring Sustainable Food Security under Land, Water, and Energy Stresses”, this year’s index assesses the state of world hunger, identifies the countries and regions where hunger and malnutrition are most severe, and draws attention to those that are most vulnerable.

According to the 2012 Index, unsustainable use of water, land, and energy is challenging the food security of the poor and most vulnerable around the world.

The 2011 edition has described four countries in sub-Saharan Africa as experiencing extremely alarming levels of hunger. They were Burundi, Chad, DR Congo and Eritrea.
