2012 Man Ghana fixed for October 13

The Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA), will on October 13, stage the nation’s official bodybuilding championship at the rlg D.G Hathiramani Sports Hall, at the Accra sports Stadium.

The competition, which is in its sixth edition, is expected to name a new champion, following the compulsory retirement of three time champions Kofi “Assase” Salia, 2006 champion Samuel “Obuor”Asante, coupled with the absence of 2007 champion Christopher “Sabato” Antoh.

The event dubbed “The Battle of the Gladiators” will see the nation’s topmost and finest bodybuilders across the country, with notable ones like Cornelius Ankrah, Yaw Azure, Cyril Kofi Ajah, Eric Abiuw, John Bonney among others battling for the bragging right at the 2012 edition.

According to the organizers, the 2012 edition, which is expected to be the most competitive in recent years, will feature three weight categories; Light, Middle and Heavyweight of which, winners will be selected in each of the category.

The ultimate winner is expected to take home, a new giant trophy and medals which according to the organizers were donated by Holland based Ghanaian bodybuilder Dickson Blue.

The competition, which has so far registered 27 bodybuilders, will see other categories of awards such as Discovery of the Year, Most Muscular, Best Dance Pose and the Oldest Bodybuilder.

Abdula Haye Yartey, President of GBFA, told the GNA Sports that, nine  bodybuilders will be selected from the competition to form the nucleus of the national bodybuilding team, “The Black Muscles”.

He said, the association will select the best out of nine bodybuilders, to represent Ghana at world championship in Ecuador and the Amateur Olympia in Kuwait.
