Be serious with the economy – Dr Bawumia

Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, running mate to the presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the government to be serious with the management of the economy.

He said the hardship being suffered by Ghanaians was as a result of the government’s failure to effectively manage the economy.

Dr Bawumia said this when addressing a press conference in Tamale on Sunday to climax his two-week-long tour of some constituencies of the Northern Region to sell the NPP’s message of transforming the economy to the electorate in the region.

He was accompanied by Mr Mustapha Hamid, Spokesperson to the NPP Flag bearer, including some regional executives of the party.

He asserted that the government had been misrepresenting the state of the Ghanaian economy to especially the international community and called on it to be truthful about the facts and figures, and devise appropriate policies to address the challenges confronting Ghanaians.

Dr Bawumia was not happy at the state of the roads network in the region describing it as the poorest in the country, saying the NPP would make it a priority to fix the roads within a specified period of time.

He said this would among others improve economic activities, especially agricultural production, which many of the people in the region engaged in for living.

He said the NPP would adopt an integrated approach to transform agriculture by improving irrigation, mechanization, feeder roads and fertilizer access to farmers.

Dr Bawumia described his tour of the region as successful, saying “we are encouraged by the support shown us” and expressed the hope that it would translate into votes for the party to win the elections.
