Local firms urged to develop CSR for sustainable national development
Mr Dela Gadzanku, President of Net Impact Ghana, an NGO, has called for initiatives that would build the capacity of local companies to implement sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for national development.
He said local companies should develop their own CSR programmes that would bring sustainability to the communities they operate.
Mr Gadzanku was speaking at the maiden edition of “Sustainability Happy Hour Event” in Accra on Thursday.
The event was to introduce Net Impact to the Ghanaian community to recruit members and initiate a dialogue on green investments in Ghana, bringing together young business leaders, government officials, academia and the media to dialogue on sustainable development.
He said the organisation seeks to bring together young professionals to network and find solutions to the myriad problems on the African continent.
It was also to assist government in establishing a National Standard of Corporate Social Responsibility or a National CSR Policy.
“To partner Business Faculties in our universities and Colleges to develop CSR curricula to teach prospective Businessmen/women the positives about CSR in order to make them responsible future businessmen and women who are mindful of their responsibilities to society and the Nation at large,” he added.
Mr Gadzanku explained that the organization being new to the Ghanaian community would link with the Net Impact Global to introduce some of its programmes to Ghanaians.
He said the organisation would collaborate with two Universities in the country to train MBA students and undergraduates to understand the issues of sustainability.
Mr Timothy Wade, Chief Operating Officer, Waste Enterprise Limited, said the youth needed to develop new mind set to adjust to the business environment.
Mr Thomas Chen, Economic Officer, US Embassy, called on institutions to join the Net Impact Ghana to continue to advocate for sustainability in all the sectors of the economy.
