NDC government sharing national cake equitably – Minister
Mr Joe Gidisu, Minister of Roads and Highways, has reiterated government’s preparedness to distribute the national cake equitably to all Ghanaians.
He said any Ghanaian who objectively assessed the developmental programmes being implemented nation-wide by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government since January 2009, would agree with the assertion.
Mr Gidisu was addressing a durbar of chiefs, assembly members and the people of Odumase and its environs in the Sunyani West District, at a sod-cutting ceremony for work to begin on roads in the town.
The project to be undertaken in two phases is estimated at GH¢2.9 million, and the first phase, which would cover 4.5 kilometres, was expected to be completed within six months, after which the second phase would commence.
Mr Gidisu said: “The NDC believe in being objective and practical, and not mere propaganda slogans only to leave the electorate in mid-stream of the NDC tenure of office.”
The Minister introduced the contractor, Mr Kofi Job, to the people, and asked him to execute the contract excellently.
Mr Gidisu said that work on roads in the Sunyani Municipality had either been completed or were progressing and that roads at Estate and Penkwase would be asphalted.
He said some roads in the Brong Ahafo Region had been on the drawing board for several years until the NDC came to power in 2009.
Mr Gidisu said the Dormaa-Ahenkro/Nkrankwanta road, described as the worst road in the region had been awarded on contract at about GHC8.1 million, and the Hwidiem-Kenyase road had been awarded on contract at GHC4.8 million.
He said construction of roads linking Offuman and Tuobodom, Tanoso-Bomaa-Tepa would be tackled before the end of year while the Goaso-Kukuom Junction, Techimantia-Akrodie, Atebubu to Kwame-Danso and Berekum-Seikwa were being considered for rehabilitation.
Mr Gidisu noted that some feeder roads only needed bridges to facilitate transportation and so far six of such bridges had already been completed in the region, with three of them in the Tain District.
They included roads linking Bedu-Daboase, and Adamu-Adontea-Asekasu.
Mr Gidisu said: “We can say that Brong-Ahafo region has got its fair share of the national cake in this relative short span of NDC Governance”.
Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, commended Mr. Gidisu for the significant role the Ministry had so far played in road infrastructure delivery in the region under the NDC.
