Man, 52, fined for cracking stones on Goldfields’ concession

Yeboah Dawuda, a 52 year-old mason, has been fined GH¢120 by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for illegally cracking stones on the concession of Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL), Tarkwa Mine.

He pleaded guilty.

Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amonsah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainants are security officers of GGL, Tarkwa Mine while the accused resides at Brahabebome village near Tarkwa.

He said on September 22, at about 1030 hours, the complainants were on their usual patrol duty within the company’s concession but on reaching new V.R.A site near the old shaft area they saw the accused sitting at the restricted area cracking stones.

Inspector Amponsah said when the accused was questioned he could not give any tangible explanation and was therefore arrested and handed over to the police together with a cutlass and hammer.

He said during interrogation the accused admitted in his caution statement that he went to the company’s concession to crack stones to complete his new building project.

He said after investigation the accused was charged with the offense.
