President Mahama directs Defence Minister to resource Military

President John Dramani Mahama on Friday directed the Minister for Defence to assess and provide all the necessary resources that would  help step up the productivity level of the Ghana Armed Forces.

“I am aware that in spite of your good performance exhibited over the years, you have some few challenges and I will do my best to ensure that all the necessary infrastructure and logistics are provided to facilitate your activities.”

President Mahama gave this assurance during the graduation ceremony of 108 officer Cadets who had undergone regular and special duties courses at the Ghana Military Academy.

The Academy, since its establishment in April 1960,has produced over 3000 Ghanaian officers now serving in various capacities in the Armed Forces and beyond.

The Academy has also trained Cadets from sister African countries, notably Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Benin and the Gambia.

President Mahama advised the Officer Cadets to exhibit political neutrality in their professional work in order to maintain discipline.

“As new graduates of this Academy, you need to be mindful of the fact that you now have higher and greater responsibility of serving Ghana and Ghanaians.”

He advised them to be dedicated and committed to selfless service to the country and beyond in order to market themselves and Ghana in their international engagements, “and to avoid anything that will tarnish the image of the country.”

President Mahama urged the cadets to regularly acquaint themselves with the modern trends in technology as that could help them to brace up against the advanced technological crime wave that had bedeviled the entire world.

The President called for effective collaboration amongst the security agencies that would ensure perpetual peace and security, and  create a congenial atmosphere for free and fair elections in December this year.

Prizes were awarded to all Officer Cadets who distinguished themselves in their various disciplines.
