Ex-British cabinet Secretary on two-day working visit in Ghana

The Right Honorable Lord O’Donnell, former Cabinet Secretary and Head of the British Civil Service,  has arrived in Ghana for a two-day working visit, a statement issued by IDEG and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday has stated.

The visit is under the invitation of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), British High Commission and the Public Services Commission.

While in Ghana, Lord O’Donnell would lead a technical workshop for high government officials, corporate leaders and academicians to deliberate on issues concerning the management of change and continuity in political and administrative transitions, and how to respond to them effectively.

The statement said Lord O’Donnell would also share British experience in managing political and administrative transitions because of his immense experience in managing such transitions under three successive Prime Ministers of Britain.

“ … The most recent of which was his management of the transition from the Labour Party government to the current coalition government after the April 2010 elections in Britain”, the statement read.

The statement indicated that the visit of Lord O’Donnell was expected to avail a great opportunity for Ghana’s public service, which played a central role in managing political and administrative transitions, the corporate world  and the general public  to tap into his wealth of knowledge and experience.

Lord O’Donnell is expected to deliver a public lecture on “Managing Political and Administrative Transitions: The British Experience” at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre for Excellence in ICT, near the State House.
