Zonal women’s championship takes off

The Zonal Championships that rounds up the season’s activities in women’s football has kicked off at two of the three centres selected to host the competition.

Four teams from each zone will qualify to play in the National League which will replace the National Championship at the start of next season at the end of the 10-day competition,

Teams in Zone Two namely from the Eastern, Ashanti and Western Regions whilst Greater Accra, Central and Volta Regions in Zone Three began their competition on Monday (September 10) with the competition in Zone One starting later this week.

The competition according to information pieced together by GNA Sports has each zone with eight teams grouped into two competing in a tournament format.

The Eastern Region hosting Zone Two has chosen Begoro in the Fanteakwa District as the tournament venue while Ho is hosting Zone Three. Wa will host Zone One where the competition kicks off today.

The top two teams will qualify for the semi-finals and onward to the final to decide the zonal champions. The four semi-finalists will also gain automatic qualification to play in the Women’s National League.

For Zone two, Ashtown will play  Hasaacas while Haasport lock horns with Dreams in Group A, just as Fabulous will come up against  Kansas while Ayoola host Upper Manya Klo in Group B.
