Newly created Ayensuano District raises more cash
The newly created Ayensuano District Assembly collected GH¢9,778.00 as internally generated fund from only six revenue items from July to August this year and spent GH¢5,800.
Mr Samuel Fleischer-Kwabi, Acting District Chief, who announced this at a special General Assembly meeting at Coaltar on Monday, named the items as conveyance, market tools, lorry park fees, sand winning, birth and death registration and bar licensing.
He urged all assembly members to help identify any ratable item in their electoral areas and urged management to intensify revenue mobilization efforts and monitor the activities of revenue collectors so that monies collected are accounted for.
Mr Fleischer-Kwabi, who is the Municipal Chief Executive for Suhum, appealed to the assembly members to educate the public, especially those at Coaltar, not to charge exorbitant rent advances since that could discourage technical officers from accepting postings to the District.
He said the appeal became necessary because of difficulty that officers who had reported were facing with respect to high rent advance demands from landlords.
Mr Fleischer-Kwabi informed the House that he managed to get more dual and mono desks for basic schools in the area.
He promised to release 3,000 desks (1,000 dual and 2,000 mono desks) to the district for distribution to the schools, especially the newly constructed ones.
Concerning the DDF projects, Mr Fleischer-Kwabi said a three-unit classroom block had been awarded on contract for construction to begin and promised to release 40 electricity poles to the district for distribution to the communities that need them.
He told the House that GH¢100,000.00 had so far been received as seed money from the government to undertake the initial preparatory works prior to the take-off of the assembly.
On the issue of office accommodation, the acting DCE said the mother assembly took steps to rehabilitate the Area Council office and a Hall which had subsequently been converted into an assembly Hall.
He said a new office was being constructed and work had reached 90% complete and two pick-up vehicles have been released to the assembly by the Suhum Municipal Assembly.
Mr Ayeh Paye, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, urged the assembly members to shelve their partisan political interest and pursue vigorously the development interest of the district.
He advised members to work in absolute unity since that was the only way the district could develop faster and become the envy of all.
