Tema fire cases rise to 178 in first half 2012

The Tema Regional Fire Office would soon embark on a door-to-door educational campaign to sensitize residents within the Metropolis on the need to guard against fire outbreaks.

Divisional Officer Grade Two (DO2) Rosemary Brobby, Regional Public Relations Officer, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Tema, explained that this has become necessary because  fire outbreaks in the Tema Region has been on the increase in recent times.

DO2 Brobbey said the outbreaks  has increased from 112 in the first half of 2011, to 178 during the same period this year.

DO2 Brobby  said out of the 178 cases recorded during the first half of the year, 158  were still being investigated.

She said domestic fires topped the list with 47 cases in 2011 as against 86 this year, followed by vehicular fires which recorded 11 cases in 2011, as against 22 this year, with bush fires placing third with five cases in 2011 as against 17 in 2012.

She advised residents in the Metropolis to be very cautious when handling  electrical gadgets, in order not to cause outbreaks.

DO2 Brobby urged them to report promptly all cases of outbreaks to personnel of  the Service, to ensure swift response .
