Chiraa Roman school scores 100% in BECE

Chiraa Roman Catholic Junior High School (JHS) scored 100 per cent  in the 2011/2012 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr Christopher Olo, head teacher of the school who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Chiraa on Wednesday said the performance was an improvement over the 2010/2011 academic year.

He said in the previous academic year the school presented 41 candidates and gained 94 per cent success while with 53 candidates for the 2011/2012 academic year, it achieved 100 per cent.

Giving breakdown of the candidates’ performance for the academic year under review, Mr Olo said the highest grade started from aggregate nine to 19, while others gained between aggregates 20 and 29 with aggregate 30 considered to be not all that encouraging for the school.

The head teacher commended both teachers and students for showing serious commitment to teaching and learning and urged them to hold fast to that spirit without giving any cause to shifting from the progressive course.

Mr Olo, however, complained about challenges facing the school, which include inadequate accommodation and other essential facilities.

He appealed to the church to assist the school with the needed infrastructure and logistics for a further improvement in their performance.
