The Ministry of Energy on Tuesday announced that there will be load shedding programme in some parts of the country due to the disruption of gas supply from Nigeria to the Volta River Authority.
A statement signed by Mr Edward Bawa, Head of Communications Unit of the Ministry said: “It has come to the notice of the Ministry of Energy that the West African Gas Pipeline has developed a technical problem which has affected the supply of gas to the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Sunon Asogli Power Plant.”
The statement said this has resulted in a reduction in power generation from VRA whilst the Sunon Asogli Power Plant has been completely shutdown.
The understanding is that, Engineers of the West African Gas Pipeline Company are working tirelessly to restore normal supplies of gas”.
The statement said: “Though the Ghana Grid Company has issued a statement to the media on this issue, the Ministry of Energy owes it to the public to give a full disclosure on the current challenge in the power sub-sector and what is being done to address it.
“The Ministry of Energy seizes this opportunity to unreservedly apologize to Ghanaians for the inconvenience this present challenge may cause and promise to work with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that the problem is resolved”.
