Barclays-ABSA consortium gets approval to finance Ghana hospitals

Cabinet has approved a proposal to allow a consortium formed by Barclays Bank and ABSA Capital to finance the construction of the Wa Regional Hospital and eight other hospitals in different parts of the country.

The government entered into a contract with Euroget De-Invest SA for the construction of a regional hospital in Wa and a 500-bed military hospital in Kumasi for the Ministry of Defence.

The contract is also for six district hospitals at Twifo-Praso in the Central Region; KonongoOdumasi and Tepa in the Ashanti Region; Nsawkaw in the Brong-Ahafo Region; Salaga in the Northern Region, and Adenta-Madimi in the Greater Accra Region.

Mr John Jinapor, the Spokesperson of President Mahama, who made this known to the Daily Graphic, said the hospitals, when completed, would not only help to provide quality healthcare service but would also playa major role in reducing the burden of patients when they were referred to hospitals outside their regions and districts.

He said the new development would speed up work on the Wa Hospital and other projects which had stalled “due to the difficulty Euroget De-Invest SA was facing with raising the requisite financing based on the unconfirmed promissory notes issued by the government”.

We all hope that “EUROGET DE INVEST” and its ruthless and corrupt leader “SAID DERAZ” do not play a role in these hospital projects, since it will be a catastrophe of huge proportions for the Government of Ghana, Barclays Bank and the people of Ghana. Everyone in this country who has had to deal with these crooks know what they are capable of doing. It is not good.
