AUCC Pensions Academy holds first graduation

African University College of Communication (AUCC), has graduated 46 students under its newly introduced AUCC Pensions Academy.

The six-week course, which is Ghana’s premier specialist pensions training programme, aims to provide professional training for trustees of provident funds, occupational pension schemes and other stakeholders involved in the management of schemes.

The training enables participants to meet the statutory requirement and manage their schemes effectively as well as to provide an opportunity for all people to learn and fully understand the nature and function of retirement plans.

The Academy currently runs certificate in Pensions Management Course covering Ghana’s New Three Tier Pension Scheme, Pensions Administration and Trustee’s Role, Investment of Assets, Business Ethics and Knowledge of Trust Documentation.

Others are the Law Relating to Pensions, Knowledge of Scheme Investment Policy, Law Relating to Trust and Trustee Role and Running a defined contribution Occupational Pension Pensions Scheme.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Samuel N. Woode, Chairman of the Academy Governing Council, tasked the graduates to take their destinies into their own hands and confront the world.

He said it was critical for the graduates to make use of the knowledge and experience derived from the Academy to work diligently to win trust and confidence of customers.

While urging the graduates not to forget what they had learnt during their training, he said, the curriculum was expected to impact knowledge and enhance their understanding about the pensions scheme to help manage monies of beneficiaries.

Prof Woode challenged them to be assertive and not to be afraid of taking critical decisions to make them successful in their career, adding that “success takes one step to complacency”.
