Presbyterian Church Ghana elects new Clerk
The Reverend Dr Samuel Ayete-Nyampong, 52, chairperson of the Akuapem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has been elected as the Clerk of General Assembly of the Church.
He was elected at the just ended General Assembly of the church at Abetifi on Wednesday after defeating other contestants.
They are Rev. Dr Sulle Sah, Director of Ecumenical and Social Relations, Rev. Dr Branford Yeboah, Lecturer, University of Ghana, Rev. Christian Ocloo, Director of Ramseyer Training Center, and Rev. Odame Asare, District Minister for Mampong Asante.
Rev. Dr Ayete-Nyampong, former Director of Ecumenical and Social Relations and Inter-Faith and Research Centre of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, succeeds Rev. Anim Oppong, whose tenure of office as Clerk of General Assembly ends on August 31 this year.
Rev. Dr. Ayete- Nyampong thanked the Church for the confidence reposed in him and gave the assurance that he would contribute to the growth of the church.
He asked the church to continue to pray and support him for the Holy Spirit to empower him to be able to live up to expectation.
Rev. Ayete-Nyampong commended the Electoral College for carrying out free and fair polls, and called on Ghanaians to replicate the standard set by the church in Election 2012.
Rev. Ayete-Nyampong said: “You can count on me as an able and reliable team player ready to contribute the best of my experiences, spiritual gifts and skills for the fulfillment of the Church’s agenda in our time”.
He commended the outgoing Clerk of General Assembly, Rev. Anim Oppong, for his dedication and exemplary leadership, which had lifted the image of the church.
Rev Dr Ayete-Nyampong is a theologian scholar of Aberdeen University, Scotland, where he obtained his doctorate degree.
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church, Right Rev. Professor Emmanuel Martey, advised the newly elected Clerk to sow seeds of evangelism and love among the congregation saying, “If faith is to flourish, it needs to strike deep roots of love in the hearts of the people.”
He asked people in leadership positions to be humble and to eschew arrogance, greed and power-drunkenness.
