Uneasy calm hits Ho Nurses Training College over “protocol” list

The submission of names of 50 extra students by the Ministry of Health (MOH) for consideration for admission into the Ho Nurses Training College is said to have put authorities of the college in a limbo.

According to highly placed sources, the College had already shortlisted the maximum 300 students for admission and was therefore agitated over the fresh “protocol” list.

A senior tutor, who wanted his identity withheld, told the GNA that the College had shortlisted 100 students for the certificate course and 200 students for the diploma course, numbers which would fully occupy the three available classrooms.

The source said the College was already over-populated, as facilities and resources were grossly inadequate and therefore wondered how the College would cope with an extra 50 students, especially with regards to lecture room space.

Some other tutors, who all wanted to be anonymous expressed worry about the fresh list as the College was already under enormous strain, chastising the MOH over the issue.

They said in the case of the extra 50 students being admitted, classes for them would have to be under tree shades.

When contacted Mrs Josephine Asuo-Gyabour, Principal of the College told the GNA on telephone that the College had indeed shortlisted 350 students for admission.

She said she was away for some days and was yet to be briefed about the extra list of 50 students from MOH but confirmed the College had hints from the MOH about another shortlist, which she called a “mop up” from the MOH.
