GIMPA’s new Rector Prof. Achampong Manu inaugurated

The Governing Council of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration on Wednesday inaugurated Professor Franklyn Achampong Manu as its new Rector.

Prof Manu’s appointment was decided at a meeting of the council held on April 10, 2012 before the retirement of Professor Yaw Agyemen Badu on July 31, 2012.

Dr Christian Amoako-Nuama, Chairman of the GIMPA Council, said the Institute was founded with the belief that education is an ongoing process and that learning never stops.

She said the Institute would continue to contribute to the success of the nation by imparting the highest standards of teaching, learning and training for future leaders.

Prof Manu thanked the GIMPA Council for the confidence reposed in him and promised to do his best to advance the mission of the institute.

He said he would create an academic community in which students and clients are valued and encouraged all to strive for excellence and a life-long learning experience.

Prof Manu said he would transform the Institute into a world class facility focusing on applied research relevant to national development, create a technology-based administrative and financial system and ensure that appropriate structures and leadership are seen at all levels,.

He said he would structure the Institute into a performance-oriented culture and a leader in innovative programs that are relevant to the African context adding that this could be achieved by the support of all stakeholders of the Institute.

Mr Oteng Adjei, Minister of Energy, administered the oath of office to the new Rector who was presented with the MACE by Prof Badu as a symbol of authority to steer the affairs of the Institute.

Prof Manu, born September 4, 1956 attended the Prempeh College from 1967 to 1972 and Mfantsipim School from 1972 to 1974 for the GCE Ordinary and Advanced Levels respectively.

He entered the University of Ghana in 1974 and graduated in 1977 with honours in B.Sc Administration. He obtained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and International Business from Graduate School of Business Administration (Stern), New York University and was awarded a Ph.D degree in Marketing and International Business from the same Graduate School of Business Administration in 1989.

Professor Manu has held various positions in academia including Dean of GIMPA Business School since 2005; Professor of Marketing and International Business and the Director of Ph.D Programme at Morgan State University, School of Business and Management, Maryland, USA; and Consultant to United Nations Centre for Transnational Corporations.

He is currently Chairman of the MTN Foundation and also serves on the boards of Unilever Ghana Limited and Bedrock Venture Capital.
