MTN Ghana rolls out 83 2G, 3G network sites in first six months of 2012

Mobile telecoms firm, MTN has rolled out 83 network sites in Ghana during the first six months of 2012 in a bid to expand its coverage and capacity across the country.

The new roll out includes both 2G and 3G network sites.

During the six months it rolled out 62 2G sites and 21 3G co-located sites bringing total 2G sites to 2,318 and co-located 3G sites to 749, the MTN Group said in its 2012 first-half reviewed interim results released August 8, 2012.

MTN Ghana’s capital expenditure during the six month period amounted to $33.7 million (273 million rand), which the company says “was below target” due to project delivery issues.

The Group however, indicated that “corrective actions” have been put in place and MTN Ghana is confident that it will meet its capital expenditure targets by the end of 2012.

MTN Ghana currently has 10.76 million subscribers, leading the market share in the country.
