More companies donate towards Mills’ funeral
Some organisations and a state ministry have presented items and cash to the Funeral Planning Committee of the late President John Evans Atta Mills slated for Wednesday August 8 to Friday August 10.
The companies included Guinness Ghana Brewery Limited, London Beach Committee, Aqua Fresh Limited, Vita Milk, Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), Greater Accra Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), TT Brothers, rlg Communications and Gbi-Hanjer Limited.
Mr Maurice Tanco Abisa-Seidu, a Director presenting the items on behalf of MOFA, said the Ministry was presenting 100 boxes of dressed chicken, 30 bags of rice, six cartons of fish and two cows to support government in preparing for the funeral.
The Ministry later presented 20 bags of rice, 50 boxes of dressed chickens, 10 cartons of fish, and a cow to the widow, Dr Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills to support the family.
Guinness Ghana Brewery Limited presented several boxes of all the nine brands of the company, while London Beach Committee presented different kinds of fish including grouper, sea bream, cattle fish, tuna, chiley, and tilapia.
rlg Communications presented a cheque for GH¢500,000; the Greater Accra Regional Women’s Organiser of the NDC presented 60 boxes of Special Ice Mineral Water, while the Gbi-Hanjer Limited presented GH¢500 cash.
The rest were, Aqua Fresh Limited, who donated 140 crates of assorted drinks; Bel-Auqa presented 500 boxes of mineral water; Vita Milk gave 200 boxes of Vita Milk and TT Brothers presented 200 cartons of assorted drinks worth GH¢15,000.
Receiving the items, Mr Ken Kanda, Member of the Funeral Planning Committee in-charge of Protocol, expressed appreciation on behalf of the Government and the Committee to the organisations for their kind gesture saying it would go a long way to support the funeral.
He said the late President Mills was a peaceful man and had taught every Ghanaian a lot in terms of how he led his life as a President and hoped that in his death, the country would learn a lot.
Madam Akua Sena Dansua, Minister of Tourism and Member of the Funeral Committee, thanked all the organisations for recognising the good works of President Mills to contribute their quota to help in the preparation of his funeral.
She said government was grateful for their support towards the funeral of the late President, and gave the assurance that the items would be used for the intended purpose.
