Chief of Defence Staff calls for unity among security services

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Peter Augustine Blay, has called on personnel of all the security services to remain united and work together to sustain peace and stability especially before, during and after the upcoming general elections.

A statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel E. Aggrey-Quarshie of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Public Relations Directorate said, Lt-Gen Blay made the call at the closing ceremony of “Exercise Bridget” (EX-Bridget) organised by Six Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces based in the Northern Region.

He appealed to the security service personnel to be supportive of each other and forge ahead for a common goal of maintaining peace and order in the country.

The CDS congratulated participants for exhibiting a high sense of discipline and professionalism and urged them to let it reflect in the discharge of their duties.

Air Commodore P.K. Ayisa, Six Garrison Commander, said Ex-Bridget was organised with the aim of fostering cooperation, coordination, information flow and support among security personnel.

He appealed to all personnel to display exemplary conduct and be disciplined as they go about their duties.

“During this period, the eyes of the general public would be on us, our sense of professionalism would be challenged and our professed neutrality would be tested.  We are therefore cautioned to be extra vigilant from now till the general elections and thereafter”.

As part of the activities, representatives from the Electoral Commission (EC), and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) took the participants through their respective roles and responsibilities before, during and after the December 2012 elections.

The lectures were preceded by a football gala involving members of the security services in the Northern Region.
