Hearts of Oak’s Uriah Asante joins Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel

Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Uriah Asante has joined Tunisian giants, Etoile du Sahel on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Asante, 19, penned the deal on Friday at the Club’s headquarters in the Mediterranean resort of Sousse after passing a medical.

A statement on the official website of the Tunisian club cited by GNA Sports confirmed that the midfielder moved to the Club from his mother club, Pure Joy Stars.

Asante rejoined the Division One campaigners following the expiration of his season-long loan deal with Hearts of Oak.

The shocking news however is that the midfielder will play no part in the CAF Champions League campaign of the Tunisian giants as the Club has exhausted their quota for registered players.

“Uriah Asante cannot, however, take part in the African Champions League due to the lack of space on the list of qualified players,” the Club said in a statement.

The news will come as a big blow to the midfielder who was hoping to showcase his talent in the premier continental Club Championship.

Etoile du Sahel are housed in Group A alongside holders Esperance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), ASO Chlef (Algeria) and Sunshine Stars (Nigeria).

He will however be eligible to feature in the Tunisian Premier League (Ligue 1) which has six matches to go. Etoile occupy the fifth position, 17 points adrift of leaders Esperance.

Asante becomes the fourth Ghanaian in less than seven years to join the 2007 CAF Champions League winners after Charles Taylor, Frank Osei and Sadick Adams.
