Ghana President names central bank governor Amissah-Arthur as Vice President

Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has been named Vice President of Ghana, spokesperson to the President John Mahama, John Jinapor confirmed on Joy FM news monitored by ghanabusinessnews.com July 31, 2012.

The Vice President slot became vacant when John Mahama was sworn-in as President following the death of Prof. John Atta Mills on July 24, 2012.

Amissah-Arthur’s appointment will soon be sent to Parliament for approval.

Mr Amissah-Arthur became governor of the BoG October 1, 2009, taking over from Dr. Paul Acquah who ended his two-term tenure at the central bank.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur began his career in economics as an assistant lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon in 1979.

He also served as deputy Secretary of Finance during the PNDC regime in 1986 and became a deputy Minister of Finance in the NDC government from 1993 to 1997.

    What type of experience Mr Arthur has in politics or just a show. Couldn’t handle Bank of Ghana Cedi slid, can he handle government. Yet Cedi continue to slid.
