London Olympics: Team Ghana fails to fly national flag at half-mast in honour of Late President

After John Mahama was sworn-in as President of Ghana, he directed that all flags should fly at half-mast in honour of the departed President Prof John Atta Mills.

Indeed, all respected the President Maham’s directive as most buildings across the country observed that to pay their respect to the departed President.

Even though Ghana’s Sports Minister, Clement Kofi Humado, was reported to have said that the country considered withdrawing from the London 2012 Olympic Games following the death of President Mills, shockingly, Team Ghana during the opening ceremony of the event on Friday, flew the national flag at full-mast.

This did not go down well with some persons in the country who watched the £27 million opening ceremony on television despite Ghana’s contingent wearing an all black outfit.

Ghana’s flag was carried by 25-year-old boxer Maxwell Amponsah.

The half-mast national flag directive will end after Prof Mills is buried on August 10 at the Flagstaff House, the country’s Presidential palace.
