EC says parliamentary by-elections in Wulensi, Kwabre West called off

Dr. Afari-Gyan – EC Boss

The Electoral Commission (EC) has called off the parliamentary by-elections, which were to take place in the Wulensi constituency in the Northern Region, and Kwabre West Constituency in  the Ashanti Region.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr K.Sarfo Kantanka, Deputy Chairman of EC in charge of operations, copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on Friday.

It said the EC’s action followed “the ruling by the High Court in the case of Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, Asiedu Nketia and Ivor Greenstreet versus the Electoral Commission that the Commission cannot hold any elections using a register compiled under the repealed public elections (registration of voters’ regulation) 1995 Cl.12 and the fact that the biometric voters’ register currently being compiled will not be ready for the aforementioned by-election”.

The statement advised all political parties, candidates and voters in the affected constituencies to take note and halt any preparations in relation to these by-elections.
