Finance Minister seeks extra GH¢2.6b spending for 2012 fiscal year

Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffour is asking law makers to approve a supplementary budget estimate of GH¢2.6 billion for the 2012 fiscal year.

Presenting the supplementary budget in Parliament today July 18, 2012, Dr Duffuor said the reason for the proposed extra spending was due to the increase in salary payment and some for fuel subsidy, utility subsidy as well as electoral expenses.

The budget supplement projected a 6.7% deficit of gross domestic product (GDP) for the 2012 fiscal year.

Ghana goes to the polls this year December 7.
