Glo overtakes Expresso, picks 2% share of Ghana’s telecoms market

New entrant, Glo Mobile, has become the Ghana’s 5th largest telecoms company in terms of subscriber base, overtaking Expresso.

The latest mobile subscriber base as at the end of May 2012 released by the National Communications Authority (NCA) shows that Glo has 468,508 subscriber base representing 2% of the total market share as Expresso’s subscriber base declined to 195,670, representing 1%.

Glo Mobile launched its commercial operations April 29, 2012.

The country’ total subscriber base as at May, 2012 stood at 22,453,907 with MTN leading the market with a subscriber base of 10,644,804 representing 47%, followed by Vodafone 4,671,999 subscribers, representing 21% of the total market share.

Tigo, with 15% market share, has a subscriber base of 3,457,427 while Airtel recorded a subscriber base of 3,015,499 representing 14%.
