Political parties walk for peace in Asante-Mampong

Members and supporters of the various political parties in the Asante-Mampong Constituency have  embarked on a joint peace march to send a message of their readiness to work together to prevent violence in the coming December polls.

They carried placards, some of which read “Peace would ensure development” “Election is not war”, “We want peace”, Children and women suffer when there is war” and Political parties are not enemies.”

The three-hour march ended at the Tadiem Park where the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Daniel Appau-Ohyeamang addressed them.

He urged parties to accept to play by the rules of decency, fairness and transparency.

It was important for the political parties and their supporters to be tolerant and avoid pronouncements that could stoke needless tension, the MCE said.

Mr Appau-Ohyeamang advised the youth to refuse to be part of any scheme to disturb the peace and create confusion.

He added that they should not allow anybody to hide behind them to unleash terror on the people and underlined the need for all to share in the protection of the nation’s peace, unity and cohesion.
