Ghana Metro Mass Transit’s 100 new buses worth $7.6m – Indian Manufacturer
The Metro Mass Transit Limited of Ghana last month May 2012 inaugurated 100 new buses for its transport operations in the country.
Ashok Leyland, a flagship company of the Hinduja Group based in India, who supplied the buses known as “Falcons” said the order was worth $7.6 million.
The buses were handed over to Ghana’s Vice President John Dramani Mahama by Mr. Arijit Dutta Chowdhury, RM –SEWA of Ashok Leyland in Accra in the presence of H.E. Rajinder Bhagat, Indian High Commissioner to Ghana and Mrs. Dzifa Aku Attivor, Deputy Minister for Transport.
In a statement June 9, 2012, the automobile company indicated that the 100 buses were specially customized into “57-seater, left-hand drive buses” to meet specific customer requirements.
With the supply, Ashok Leyland said it has become the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to introduce a mechanical inline fuel injection with a Euro three engine and electronic destination board in Ghana.
“Africa has been one of our key focus markets and presents some very unique opportunities for a commercial vehicle manufacturer like us,” Managing Director of Ashok Leyland, Vinod K Dasari was quoted as saying in the statement.
The company last year 2011 launched 160 waste management trucks in Ghana.
