National Service Scheme deploys 2,103 qualified nurses, midwives

The Ghana National Service Scheme (GNSS) has deployed a total of 2,103 qualified Nurses and Midwives to undertake their national service for the 2012-2013 service year in 166 health facilities across the country.

The deployment, which is helping to greatly augment the availability of health personnel in rural communities, is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the GNSS, the Ministry of Health and Health Regulatory Bodies on May 09, 2011.

A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday by the Secretariat of the National Service Scheme said the Nurses and Midwives commenced their service on June 4, 2012, following the successful completion of their professional examination.

The statement signed by the Executive Director of the GNSS, Vincent Senam Kuagbenu, asked all Nurses and Midwives to visit the GNSS website,, to access their posting letters.

There are 1,374 Registered General Nurses, 57 Registered Community Nurses, 433 Registered Midwives and 239 Registered Mental Health Nurses.
