Two bodies to supply solar lamps to Ga West Municipal Assembly

Two NGOs, Ghana-based Greener Impact International (GII), and UK-based CarbonSoft, in collaboration with Ga West Municipal Assembly (GWMA), are to provide free solar lamps to people in the Municipality without power.

The project, expected to cover the entire country, is aimed at reducing Green House Gas (GHG) emission from burning fossil fuel.

Mr Kassin Gawusu, Executive Director of GII, said this at a consultative meeting with the assembly in Accra.

He said the NGOs were dedicated to create awareness of climate change and would participate in the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Project that offered social and environmental benefits by the end of 2012.

Mr Thomas Okine, Presiding Member of the Assembly, said the project would give employment to the people and volunteers who would distribute the solar lamps.

He said the assembly had welcomed the idea by GII for choosing GWMA for the project in the Greater Accra Region and called for support from the people.
