Minister cuts sod for construction of $1m Gbane Bridge

The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, on has cut the sod for the construction of the Gbane Bridge in the Talensi Nabdam District.

The project is being undertaken by the Shaanxi Manning Company Ghana Limited as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Shaanxi Manning Company Ghana Limited is the mother company of China Gold Ghana Resources Group Company Limited which is providing mining support services to registered small mining groups in the Talensi Nabdam District of the Upper East Region.

The Regional Minister commended the mining company for the complementary role it has been playing not only in the District but in the Region as a whole.

Mr Woyongo noted that the construction of the “Oun Bridge” which is estimated at the cost of $1 million, would not only help the people access other parts of the region but would also serve as one of the strongest pillars for socio-economic development of the area.

Mr Woyongo however expressed sadness about the way and manner some people disrupted the programme which was supposed to have come on last week leading to the mining Company losing over $3.5 million including injuries to both Chinese and Ghanaians.

“I wish to state that Government is committed to ensuring that such unwanted incidents are never repeated and that the culprits will be rigorously dealt with according to the laws of the land”, he assured the Chinese.

The Regional Minister commended the security agencies and the chief of the area who worked hard last week to bring the situation under control and appealed to them to always maintain that spirit.

The Chief Executive of Shaanxi Manning Company Ghana Limited, Mr Wei Xing indicated that in 2008, the company entered into agreement with two small local mining groups, the Yenyeya and Pubootaba Mining groups, to provide them mining support services.

He stated that after concluding the agreement, the Company started exploration and development of the underground shaft in the third quarter of 2009.

According to him, currently, it has expanded its works including the extension of underground roadways, building of modernized new process plant, field preparation operations and Campus renovation, all totaling about $50 million.

He noted that though the Company was in its development stages, it viewed corporate social responsibility as one of its major duties which cannot be down played with.
