Community declares vote of no confidence in Ghanaian politicians

The chiefs and people of Woraso in Techiman Municipality have expressed disgust about the blame game being played by the local political heads over the face-lifting of the area.

They noted at a press conference that apart from the poor roads in the area there is lack of a clinic and befitting school infrastructure.

Addressing the press conference at Woraso, Nana Akua Badu, Queenmother, alleged that the people “are regarded as non-Ghanaians” because politicians only visit the area during the political season with “gargantuan promises but are heard of no more when they win”.

The queenmother described the situation as “very unfortunate”.

Nana Yeboah Inusah,  Chief of Yamediagro claimed that he and other stakeholders had persistently approached the Municipal Assembly to help put the roads and the school in the area to good shape but to no avail.

He denied a claim by Mr Alex Kofi Kyereme, Municipal Chief Executive, that the Assembly had sunk six boreholes in the area.

Nana Frimpong Haruna, Krontihene of Woraso, also reiterated the claim that the people had been neglected by the authorities, adding that even during the National Identification exercise in the Brong Ahafo Region, the area was neglected.

Mr Williams Kyere, Head Teacher of the local primary school, which was established in 2003 by one Isaac Donyina and absorbed by government in 2005 with a pupil population of 204 is being handled by only three teachers.

He said attempts made for the school to be roped into the Ghana School Feeding Programme have proved futile, resulting in some of the children opting to attend school at Baamire, Akrufi and Asantanso, a number of kilometers away.

The press conference was attended by people, most of whom spotted red arm and head bands holding placards some of which read: “No school, no vote,” and “No road, no vote.”

They later converge at a site where they provided additional classrooms to the local school, using palm fronds and mud blocks.
